Just A Stupid Rant

Someone told me tonight that they don't read my blog anymore, because it's just "a rant" about stupid things like bubble gum.

So, I looked up the word "rant" up in the dictionary, and found various definitions for it, including the following:

rant (n.)
1. A speech or piece of writing that incites anger or violence
2. To speak or write in an angry or violent manner
3. To talk foolishly, rave

And so, I looked back over everything I've written here, and, I have to say, I'm hard pressed to find a single piece I've written that is anything close to any of these. Even some of the most controversial pieces, like Bubble Gum, and MySpace-even the Hugo Chavez piece, are nowhere near rants.

So, then, I have to ask myself: is it just that this individual doesn't agree with my point of view? Or are they intellectually unhealthy? Because, you see, at the end of the day, the stuff you find here may be different than the stuff you find most other places, but, for the most part, it's intellectually stimulating. It's intended to broaden your mind-which is healthy. And an unwillingness to participate tells me that, perhaps, this individual simply isn't interested in wholesome food for thought.

Now, don't get me wrong: I'm not saying that if someone doesn't read MyndFood, they're intellectually lazy. I can accept that my points of view may not resonate with everyone (although, for the most part, the things I write are pretty wholesome; so if a person wholeheartedly disagrees with me, across the board, I'm a little concerned). But, I can accept that a person simply doesn't like what I have to say, and would rather get that sustenance elsewhere.

But to simply dismiss the venue as "a rant," and to move on with life? It's scary, if you ask me.

And leads, I think, to a mind that has a tendency not to expand; which is probably the classic definition of "narrow-minded."

I ask for your thoughts on this one, fellow diners. It honestly means a lot to me.

As always, thanks for dining here! I'm honored to have you!

They may not be “intellectually unhealthy” as you stated, but without doubt, intellectually unwealthy.

I'd bet money that person still reads. As a test, call their mama names on your next post to see if they say anything to you. :-D

Perhaps you've just not yet discussed a topic that interests them. As with actual food, we all have different tastes. Some are more willing to try new dishes, while others are "meat and cheese only" eaters. With me, one or two of your posts are brussel sprouts, while many other posts are as filet mignon, and still some more are like good ol' mac-n-cheese. I think there's a little something for everyone!

P.J.,
The problem is this, some people have to have it THIER way. If you don't think THEIR way, then YOU are wrong. Your blog allows for many opinions, and that is healthy. If someone does disagree with you, you welcome MATURE dialouge,(not "ranting" as was in the MYSPACE blog that was from responders and not from you) from your readers. You are not afraid of thier differing opinions, that show maturity. Obviously, this person has a problem with someone who differs from his or her opinion.
Keep it up !!!

I've read all the comments thus far, and I wanted to add: Maybe this reader doesn't even know what he/she was saying when they used the word "rant." Maybe they should have pulled the dictionary before they wrote - apparantly they don't really know the meaning of the word themselves. Nothing even resembling that has been posted on the this blog since I've begun reading. Keep up the great work! I hope they still are silently reading, if not, they're missing some great reads and thinking. You offer the smorgusbord, there's something for everyone if they just "walk" through the line with you. That my friend, is a fact!

Keep feeding us. I am a very picky eater but come her daily to dine. Some Items I only tasted since I have not developed a great like for them but I do "taste " of everything you prepare for the diners of myndfood. Keep preparing the well balanced meals. We need all the "food groups" in our daily meals.
